Jean-Paul Gaultier — Limited Edition /50

Jean-Paul Gaultier pays tribute to the designer who turned the fashion world inside out. Inspired by Jean-Paul Goude's iconic photograph 'Made in Mode,' DreamEyes Studio rebuilt the image on canvas using gold leaf and relief lettering — techniques borrowed from centuries of religious and decorative art, now repurposed for a very secular saint. The gold leaf was applied sheet by sheet in a meticulous gilding process, each layer burnished to catch the light differently depending on the viewer's angle. The raised letters spelling out Gaultier's name add a tactile, sculptural dimension — you feel this painting before you read it. The juxtaposition is intentional: the reverence of gold leaf iconography meets the irreverence of Gaultier's aesthetic, his sailor stripes, his corsets, his joyful destruction of good taste. At 100 by 80 centimetres, the piece commands a wall with the quiet authority of someone who has nothing left to prove.
